So Young Park

This body of work employs hand crocheted metal wire. It is a delicate and patient process in which simple repetition gradually gives rise to structure. So Young Park describes each loop as a cell (seemingly insignificant on its own) yet through countless replications becoming organs, muscle, and bone, an entire organism. The sculptures that emerge from the proliferation of these loops metaphorically reflect the generative process of life beginning from one cell. 

This technique allows no shortcuts or efficiencies. In this respect, it aligns with a value she holds deeply: the work does not lie. Rather than relying on spectacle or technical display, she aims to reveal the honest traces of the hand and the depth that arises from sustained, unembellished effort. Through this practice, she seeks to present work in which time, dedication, and inquiry remain visibly and unapologetically present.
